UNIT 1 - READING 3 "EARLY INVENTIONS"

"EARLY INVENTIONS"
This article describes different inventions from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It tells about the people who thought of the inventions and how they created them. Some of the inventions, such as the periodic table and the transatlantic telegraph, were developed because of advances in science and engineering. Other inventions, like the vacuum cleaner and the washing machine, were successful because they made people’s daily lives easier.
Bloomers for women allowed women to ride bicycles, while jeans were good, strong work pants. Inventions like the safety elevator made life safer. Some inventions, such as the ice pop, were even discovered by accident.
